Interglobe Enterprises (IGE), the parent company of IndiGo has partnered with US-based company Archer Aviation, a leading player in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to launch and operate a cost-competitive, futuristic all-electric air taxi service in India by 2026 starting with Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.The InterGlobe-Archer flight will take passengers from Connaught Place in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana in about 7 minutes while the 27 km road trip usually takes over an hour. The partnership will involve purchase of 200 of Archer's Midnight aircraft for its India operations. The Midnight aircraft is a piloted four-passenger eVTOL, with a range of about 160 km, designed to perform rapid back-to-back flights covering around 32 km with a charging time of about 12 minutes in between flights. India is one of the largest opportunities for eVTOL aircraft usage in the world as it is home to the world's largest population of over 1.4 billion people. The two companies are exploring other use cases such as cargo, logistics, medical and emergency services and charter services.
