BEML launches mechanical minefield marking equipment MK-II

Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) had carried out the first prototype of mechanical minefield marking equipment, developed through TOT from Research and Development Engineers (R&DE), DRDO, Mk-II, which is built on BEML TATRA 6x6, an 'Atma Nirbhar' product.

The defence PSU told the media in an official that BEML has signed a TOT agreement during the 'Bandhan' event during DEFEXPO 2020 in the presence of the Defense Minister and is implementing the project by partnering with a number of MSMEs.

The MK-II is designed for marking the minefields at a quicker rate, semi-automatically with minimal human intervention. Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment MK-II, which is developed by R&DE (engineers), would significantly benefit the Indian Army to mark or fence minefields.

The system is capable of placing the pickets at 10-35 m spacing in the step of 5 m. The picket can be driven to a maximum depth of 450 mm with the use of this system. The equipment can mark fencing at a minimum rate of 1.2 km per hr with an inter-picket spacing of 15 m.

Besides, 500 numbers of pickets and polypropylene rope 15 km in length can be stored by the system. MME Mk-II system is designed to operate in the plains Punjab and semi-desert and desert of Rajasthan in all weather conditions.

The main sub-systems that are to be integrated into the vehicle are the carrier vehicle, Pneumatic sub-system, Electronic sub-system, Mechanical subsystems, and Electrical sub-system with selected sub-vendors.

BEML follows the sourcing of sub-system from industries established during the development phase. The sub-structure is built by sub-vendors and supplied to Accurate Group for integration onto BEML HMV.
