How is India gearing up for the NIP with construction equipment?

The new generation equipment from OEMs is preempting the needs for implementing projects along National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) like DMICDC, metro-rail, NHAI, railways, water, ports and airports. Smart cities and urban housing projects demand equipment capabilities at compressed job sites where the equipment features need a compact design and maneuverability. Similarly, mega projects need better assessment of the task at hand, better safety, low downtime and high productivity.

To delve into how the construction equipment industry is responding to the needs of infrastructure across segments, CW hosted a panel discussion titled 鈥楪earing up for National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) with innovation in Construction Equipment鈥 as part of the 颁翱狈厂罢搁鲍颁罢滨翱狈听罢贰颁贬狈翱尝翱骋驰听厂鲍惭惭滨罢 organised virtually by Construction聽World Magazine, under the aegis of ASAPP Info Global Group and FIRST聽Construction聽Council, on July 22-23, 2021. The summit was presented by Bentley Systems, with Autodesk as the design and technology partner, and was supported by the India BIM Association.

Scope of construction equipment market post-pandemic

The construction industry is experiencing a dynamic era of rapid innovation. The construction equipment manufacturers are starting to adapt to advances in telematics, autonomous machinery, and other advanced technologies.

Sharing an overview of construction equipment market, Nitesh Jain, Director, CRISIL, said, 鈥淥n one side, we see a huge opportunity in the CE market in India, while on the other side, we see a shortage of skilled labour, an increase in input cost, and a constant need to invest in technology upgradation. There are three pillars of construction 鈥 infrastructure, building and industrial. We expect a capex growth of 30-35 per cent in construction in the current fiscal. Infrastructure, roadways, railways, and urban infrastructure will be the key contributors in this segment.鈥
