Komatsu redevelops D475A-8 dozer mainframe for durability

Komatsu has redesigned the mainframe on its D475A-8 dozer to get twice the life of prior models and resist multiple reconstruct/renew cycles.

The redesigned dozer鈥檚 low centre of gravity gives machine durability and puts more track on the ground to decrease slippage. It also provides the machine more traction, ripping efficiency and pushing power. When shoe slippage is detected, sensors regulate the engine speed automatically to reduce loss of tractive effort.

During long pushes, the automatic gear shift mode involves the torque converter lockup clutch. It directs 100% of the engine鈥檚 power to the transmission, improves ground speed and meets the direct-drive efficiency. Torque converter lockup further helps reduce cycle times, enhances fuel economy and boosts productivity.

Compared to previous models, the D475A-8 provides a 10% increase in productivity, 11.5% more engine power in reverse and a 10% drop in fuel consumption in the torque converter lockup mode.

Komatsu also re-engineered the cab to make the D475A-8 more convenient with features like ergonomically placed touchpoints and palm control joysticks. Enhanced visibility to the ripper shank, a rear view monitoring system and a heated, air-suspended, ventilated seat also enhance the operator experience. Additionally, the redesigned undercarriage of the D475A-8 decreases shock and vibrations when the dozer moves over rough terrain.

Features like centralised greasing points, ground-level fill and evacuation ports, and battery and starter isolators with lockout/tag out functionality reduce planned downtime and enhance maintenance efficiency.
