MahaRERA Crosses 50,000 Housing Projects Milestone

Marking its seventh anniversary, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has registered over 50,000 housing projects, becoming the only state in India to reach this milestone. Maharashtra now accounts for more than 35 per cent of all residential projects registered under RERA across the country.
According to data from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, India has a total of 144,617 housing projects registered with RERA bodies. Maharashtra leads with 50,162 projects, followed by Tamil Nadu with 27,609 and Gujarat with 15,322.
Manoj Saunik, Chairman of MahaRERA, stated, “Previously, the real estate market in Maharashtra was concentrated in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune. Today, we are witnessing statewide expansion, indicating significant socio-economic development.�
Of the 50,162 registered projects in Maharashtra:
1. Pune leads with 12,788 projects
2. Thane has 6,746
3. Mumbai suburbs count 5,907
4. Raigad follows with 5,360
The Konkan region, which includes the MMR, has the highest concentration of residential projects at 23,770. Other regions include North Maharashtra with 4,621, Nagpur with 2,764, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with 1,886, and Amravati with 957.
MahaRERA was established in May 2017 under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, becoming the first regulatory authority of its kind in India. It has since played a crucial role in bringing transparency, accountability, and efficiency to the state’s real estate sector.
