The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has registered more than 50,000 real estate agents since its inception eight years ago, according to the latest data released by the authority. Of the 50,673 registered agents, 31,980 currently hold active registrations, while 18,693 have been deregistered due to non-compliance with training and certification norms.
MahaRERA鈥檚 reach extends beyond Maharashtra, with agents from 150 cities across India鈥攊ncluding New Delhi, Gurugram, Prayagraj, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Ahmedabad, Patna, and Jammu鈥攔egistered with the body.
Mumbai leads the state with the highest number of registered agents, exceeding 11,800. It is followed by the Pune region with over 8,200, including more than 7,000 within Pune city. Thane ranks third with over 6,700 agents, while Nagpur has more than 1,500. Other cities such as Nashik and Sambhajinagar have 324 and 343 agents respectively.
To operate as a RERA-registered real estate agent in Maharashtra, professionals must register with MahaRERA. Since January 2023, the authority has made training and certification mandatory. In May 2024, it suspended the registrations of over 20,000 agents who failed to meet these requirements.
Additionally, from February 2023, agents are required to pass a competency examination and submit half-yearly progress reports, detailing the projects where they are engaged by developers for sales.
MahaRERA also recently crossed the milestone of registering over 50,000 real estate projects鈥攖he highest in India. Nearly half of these projects are located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune. Tamil Nadu and Gujarat follow with 27,609 and 15,322 registered projects respectively.
