Over one lakh homes built in Madhya Pradesh under PMAY scheme

Madhya Pradesh's panchayat and rural development department has built one lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Housing for All Rural in the last month. In addition, the work was completed during the monsoon season, which is not the best time for house construction.

A house takes 120 days to build on average, but thanks to the department's quickness, the dream of houses for the poor is being realised in a short amount of time. The rural development department said on Thursday that during the Covid-19 pandemic underprivileged people were also constructed across the state, which was an accomplishment.

Since April 2016, the state's panchayat and rural development department has been implementing the PM rural housing scheme. In MP, 20.65 lakh houses have already been built out of a total target of 26.28 lakh. Although many districts in the state were flooded during the current fiscal year, the department built around 1.60 lakh houses between July 1 and September 22.

Officials told the media that it was made possible by the department's constant efforts and monitoring. A total of 1.06 lakh houses were built in the last month between August 15 to September 15.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a goal for everyone to have a home by 2022. People also received benefits from the Ujjwala scheme, the Swachh Bharat Mission, and MGNREGA work. The housing scheme benefits the Baiga, Saharia, and Bharia tribes as well.

According to Umakant Umrao, the principal secretary of the panchayat and rural development department, the ambitious scheme has already provided homes to around 20.65 lakh people across the state.
