Thane city plans to spend Rs 1 billion on renovations

Abhijeet Bangar, Civic Chief, Thane, has that strategy in mind as he pledges to completely transform the city in the following two and a half months, on par with Navi Mumbai.

The city will spend Rs 1 billion on the beautification project.

Before being moved to Thane, Bangar served as the civic commissioner of Navi Mumbai. He stated that in addition to beautification, he will concentrate on clearing the debris accumulated during bridge and metro project construction and dumped along the highway. Khataras, or abandoned vehicles, will also be removed from the areas along service roads and beneath flyovers.

The state government's urban development department will provide the funding for Rs 1 billion project.

On either side of the Anandnagar toll plaza, which serves as a point of entry into the city from Mumbai, a 25-metre-tall "pillar of lights" structure is being built.
