Dr Mansukh Mandaviya Inaugurates Newly Developed 220-Bedded ESIC Hospital in Ranchi

Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, today inaugurated the newly developed 220-bedded Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital at Namkum, Ranchi. The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Defence Shri Sanjay Seth, Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP Shri Pradip Verma, and senior ESIC officials.

Marking a significant milestone in augmenting healthcare delivery under the ESI scheme, the state-of-the-art hospital is set to benefit over 5 lakh insured workers and their dependents across Ranchi and neighbouring districts.

During the ceremony, Dr Mandaviya presented cash benefit certificates and sanction letters to ESIC beneficiaries and felicitated construction workers for their contributions to the project. He remarked, “This hospital is not just a structure—it is a temple of service. The doctors and staff are akin to priests, and the patients who come here are as revered as God. We shall serve them with complete devotion and dedication.

Highlighting the government's welfare initiatives post-COVID-19, Dr Mandaviya noted that 80 crore people are receiving free food grains, while over 60 crore beneficiaries are covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme with free healthcare up to ?5 lakh annually.

Shri Sanjay Seth commended the launch of the hospital, urging for expanded services to the underprivileged and calling for the swift establishment of a proposed medical college. He also lauded Dr Mandaviya’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The construction of the hospital was approved by ESIC in June 2018, with work commencing on 31 May 2018. Initially envisioned as a 200-bed facility, it has since been upgraded to 220 beds. Notably, ESIC approved the establishment of a 50-seat MBBS medical college in October 2024, expected to commence shortly.

Spread over 7.9 acres with a built-up area of 17,559 sq. metres, the hospital has been constructed at a cost of ?99.06 crore. The facility comprises a basement, ground floor and four upper floors, housing 34 wards, six isolation wards, 40 OPD rooms, and three fully equipped operation theatres (with provision for a fourth). It also includes departments of General Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, and Dentistry, with OPD and IPD services.

Established originally in 1987, the ESIC Hospital, Ranchi, has long served the healthcare needs of industrial workers in the region. The upgraded facility will now deliver comprehensive speciality and super-speciality care, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to providing accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all.
