Govt extends Atal Innovation Mission till March 2023

The Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) till March 2023.

The AIM targets to create an innovation culture and entrepreneurial ecosystem across India.

The work will be carried out by AIM through its various programmes, and under-intended targets will be achieved by AIM. They are establishing 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs), 101 Atal Incubation Centres, and 50 Atal Community Innovation Centres and will also support 200 start-ups through the Atal New India Challenges.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Singh Thakur, told the media that the total budgeted expenditure of over Rs 2,000 crore should be incurred while establishing and supporting the beneficiaries.

AIM aims to create and promote an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country through interventions at schools, universities, research institutions, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and industry levels.

AIM has its focus on both infrastructure creation and institution building. It has created a bilateral relationship with several international agencies for building synergistic collaboration on innovation and entrepreneurship across India.
