India, Sweden Strengthen Ties on Trade, Innovation and Green Tech

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, began his two-day official visit to Stockholm with high-level meetings aimed at deepening economic ties between India and Sweden, fostering trade and investment, and advancing cooperation in green technologies and innovation.

During his engagements, Goyal met with Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, and State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Håkan Jevrell. The leaders discussed expanding industrial collaboration, facilitating technology-driven growth, and encouraging sustainable investments.

A key highlight was the 21st session of the India–Sweden Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation, co-chaired by Jevrell and senior Indian officials. Discussions focused on strategic cooperation in innovation, resilient supply chains, and joint ventures in green transition. Leading Swedish institutions such as Vinnova, LeadIT, the Swedish Energy Agency, and the Swedish Export Credit Agency also participated.

Goyal also addressed the India–Sweden Business Leaders Roundtable, urging companies to capitalise on India’s robust industrial base, regulatory reforms, and growing consumer market. The dialogue spotlighted opportunities in smart manufacturing, mobility, life sciences, and digital technologies.

At the India–Sweden High-Level Trade and Investment Policy Forum, co-hosted with the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Goyal and business leaders explored future trade frameworks, including the proposed India–EU Free Trade Agreement. CEOs from leading firms discussed value-chain integration, technology transfer, and investment facilitation.

In a series of one-on-one meetings with Swedish firms in automation, maritime technology, advanced materials, and renewable energy, several companies conveyed strong confidence in India’s economy and expressed plans to expand through new investments and local partnerships.

The day concluded with a Roundtable Reception co-hosted by the Embassy of India and the Sweden–India Business Council, bringing together thought leaders, government officials, and industry representatives. Goyal reaffirmed India’s vision of becoming a global innovation and manufacturing hub, calling for sustained collaboration in digital public infrastructure and green sectors.

These engagements underline the growing strategic alignment between India and Sweden, reinforcing a shared commitment to high-impact, future-ready cooperation across critical sectors.
