An official of the civic body has reported that the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has demolished an unauthorised construction as an act against violators in the region. The official stated that the under-construction building at Sainik Colony that was razed to the ground by the enforcement wing of the JMC was built illegally in violation of provisions of the Jammu Master Plan. The team led by Rajesh Gupta, Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) of the JMC initiated the move under the provisions of Section 8(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Control of Building Operations Act, 1988. JMC has demolished or shut down various unauthorised buildings earlier on to refrain violators from constructing such structures without permission or in violation of the approved building plans, cites the official. Avny Lavasa, Commissioner of the JMC has urged the public to avoid erecting unlawful structures and to have commercial and residential building plans approved, failing which action will be taken against violators under the Jammu and Kashmir Control of Building Operation Act, 1988 and Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 including sealing and destruction of the illegal structures. Lavasa cited that severe actions will be taken against the ones who violate the approved building plan while establishing the buildings as warranted under the relevant sections of the law.
