Kolkata's Orange Line Viaduct Work Begins

Kolkata’s Metro authorities have received approval for traffic curbs to proceed with the final viaduct work on the Orange Line at Metropolitan in Salt Lake. This phase marks a crucial step toward completing the 32 km Kavi Subhash-Biman Bandar (Airport) metro corridor, part of the East-West Metro project.

Once finished, the Orange Line is expected to significantly reduce travel times for commuters between southern and eastern Kolkata and the airport, easing congestion on roadways. Traffic management plans, implemented by the Kolkata Traffic Police, include diversions and temporary restrictions to minimize disruption.

Local authorities have coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of commuters and workers, and completion is targeted by early 2025. This addition will bring new connectivity to under-served areas, support growing passenger volumes, and provide a faster, more efficient transit alternative.
