Panvel’s Rs 38.73 Bn Budget Focuses on Growth and Welfare

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled a transformative budget of Rs. 38.78 Billion, designed to enhance urban infrastructure, public welfare, and environmental sustainability. Presented by PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale during the Administrative Standing Committee meeting, the budget aims to make Panvel a more livable city—without imposing new taxes.

Solid Waste Management and Healthcare PMC has committed Rs 2.21 billion to solid waste management, ensuring efficient waste collection, transportation, and workforce management. Rs.113 million will be used to procure mega sweeping machines, and Rs100 million has been allocated to a Waste-to-Energy project in collaboration with CIDCO.

The healthcare sector has also received a major boost. Rs.126 crore has been allocated for medical facilities, including Rs.175 million for a 450-bed mother and child care hospital and Rs.10 crore for a 50-bed hospital in Kalamboli. Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) in Kalundre, New Panvel, and Kharghar are already under construction.

Fire Safety and Emergency Services To enhance fire and emergency response capabilities, Rs.390 millionhas been allocated for modern equipment, including an advanced fire engine, an emergency rescue tender, and a 22-meter turntable ladder vehicle. Additionally, Rs.735 million will fund a water bowser, and Rs.170 million will support the construction of a new fire station in Kamothe.

Drainage, Education, and Security Enhancements PMC has dedicated Rs.1.78 billion to underground drainage and sewage management, including Rs400 million for a 15 MLD wastewater recycling plant and Rs.254.9 million for a 6.5 MLD sewage treatment center.

Educational infrastructure will receive grants for new school buildings, while Rs.830 million has been allocated for municipal school upgrades, teacher salaries, and skill development programs. Security measures will also be strengthened with Rs.1.07 billionset aside for a citywide CCTV surveillance system.
