PM Modi inaugurates new airport in Rewa, MP

The Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh is set to take off, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Rewa Airport through a virtual event. This airport is one of three new airports inaugurated under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) and marks the sixth commercial airport in Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav joined the launch, announcing a special fare of ?999 for passengers flying between Rewa and Bhopal for the next month under the PM Shri dedicated flight scheme.

Dr. Yadav highlighted that Rewa Airport will soon host domestic passenger flights and cargo operations, with larger aircraft expected to operate in the future.

Local MLA and Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla emphasized the airport's significance for the Vindhya region, which includes major hubs for thermal power and cement production, alongside multiple tiger reserves and the Mukundpur Tiger Safari.

Scheduled flights are set to commence from the new airport on November 5, connecting Rewa with Bhopal, Lucknow, and Khajuraho. Shukla also noted that upcoming bidding may enable 72-seater flights connecting Rewa with Delhi, Indore, and Hyderabad, predicting that in five years, Rewa Airport could become the second-busiest airport in Madhya Pradesh after Indore.

Located about 12 km from Rewa city, the airport's inauguration comes just days before the Vindhya region's first regional industry conclave on October 23. The lack of a full-fledged airport in Rewa had been a longstanding concern for local industrialists, investors, and students, who previously traveled from nearby airports in Uttar Pradesh.

With the new airport operational, religious tourism to nearby pilgrim sites such as Chitrakoot and the Goddess Sharada Temple in Maihar is expected to grow significantly.
