The Rajasthan High Court, led by Justices Inderjeet Singh and Vinod Kumar Bharwani, has instructed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to clear all encroachments along the public road connecting Khatipura Tiraha and Sirsi Road, ensuring its width reaches the designated 48 metres. The court has mandated a strict two-month deadline for completing the task.
The directive came in response to a petition highlighting persistent road encroachments. During Thursday’s hearing, JDA counsel Amit Kuri disclosed that 274 encroachments, including permanent constructions, fencing, and other obstructions, currently hinder the road. Notices will soon be issued under Section 72 of the JDA Act, 1982, and objections from affected parties are to be resolved within seven days.
The High Court emphasized that encroachments must be removed promptly to facilitate proper infrastructure development and public access. This measure aligns with the city's commitment to address urban challenges like illegal constructions.
In a related matter, the court reviewed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning encroachments along the 200-feet sector road parallel to Kalwar Road and Niwaru Road in Jhotwara. The bench directed the JDA commissioner to submit a detailed affidavit on the status of encroachments and provide an action plan for their removal. Failure to comply by December 2 will result in the commissioner appearing personally before the court.
Advocate Aslam Khan, representing the petitioner, highlighted the urgency of clearing these illegal constructions, which obstruct public pathways and compromise infrastructure integrity. The High Court’s robust stance reflects its commitment to tackling Jaipur’s mounting urban management challenges and ensuring the city’s development adheres to lawful and planned guidelines.
The JDA’s proactive response, in adherence to the court’s orders, will play a crucial role in restoring access and improving Jaipur's road infrastructure.
