Revenue officials completes land acquisition survey for GIFT City

Revenue officials have finished the land acquisition survey for the planned Global Industrial Financial and Trade City (GIFT City) which is going to come up at Ayyampuzha in the district.

As Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) approved Rs 850 crore for the land purchase, the compensation distribution to the landowners would commence shortly. T Devarajan, special tahsildar selected for the land procurement of the project, said that the field survey was done on Thursday, and the documentation procedures concerning this would be done within some days.

The last date set by the government to complete the survey process is February 28, and the revenue department is hopeful that the procedures to release the notification concerning the procurement will be completed shortly.

Earlier, the authorities planned to achieve the survey by January itself. But restrictions due to Covid spread slowed the survey process. It was in October 2021 that the government released a gazette notification concerning the land purchase of the project which is part of the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor. The project is planned to be executed in 145 hectares of land that lies behind the area from Amalapuram to Uppukallu Junction and comes under the 8th, 6th and 9th wards of Ayyampuzha panchayat, which is situated near the forestland under the Malayattoor forest division.

A total of 145.03 hectares of land is to be procured for the project. Recently the social forestry wing of the forest department had achieved the assessment of the trees which would be removed from the site. Compensation would be rendered to the impacted families according to the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 and Kerala Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Rules 2015.
