Telangana Government Partners with STT GDC India to For Data Center

The Telangana government has taken a significant step toward positioning Hyderabad as India's data center capital with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with STT Global Data Centres India Private Limited (STT GDC India). The partnership aims to establish a state-of-the-art data center campus in Meerkhanpet, located in the Mucherla region of Hyderabad.
The MoU was signed on January 18 in Singapore, with Telangana's IT Minister D Sridhar Babu and STT GDC CEO Bruno Lopez in attendance. The agreement, valued at Rs 35 billion, underscores Telangana's growing prominence as a hub for global technology infrastructure.
This investment is part of STT GDC's broader strategy to achieve a design capacity of 1 GW across India within the next decade, with an estimated investment of $3.2 billion. The new AI-ready data center campus will feature cutting-edge technology, targeting a capacity of up to 100 MW, with significant scalability to accommodate future growth, making it one of India's largest data center projects.
Bruno Lopez, CEO of STT GDC, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, "We are honored to work with the Government of Telangana to expand our presence in this dynamic state. This partnership aligns with our shared vision of fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and building a sustainable digital future."
Telangana IT Minister D Sridhar Babu celebrated the development, stating, "Telangana's growth is unstoppable now. STT GDC’s decision to invest in our state highlights our strong ecosystem and progressive policies. We are confident that Hyderabad will be a key player in the global AI-driven digital transformation."
STT GDC India, a subsidiary of ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, Singapore, is already operating a data center in Hyderabad's HITECH City. The company is a leading provider of AI-ready colocation services and manages one of India’s largest white space areas, with over 390 MW of critical IT load across 30 facilities in 10 cities.
