Metro stations in Mumbai set to boost airport connectivity

Recently, with the ground-breaking ceremony of three new metro stations in Mumbai, Maharashtra, air travelers will soon have the option of a quicker and smoother transit to the Mumbai International Airport. The proposed metro stations at Sahar road, Domestic Airport and Terminal T2 International airport will be a part of the 33.5 km line from Colaba-Bandra to SEEPZ. The project is aimed towards providing a hassle-free traveling experience to the airport. The three stations 鈥 to be constructed by J Kumar Infraprojects and administered by MMRDA 鈥 is expected to be functional within the next five years.

The Colaba, Bandra and SEEPZ metro line is expected to enhance connectivity to all major hotspots in the city. Currently, due to traffic congestion, travelling from South Mumbai to Mumbai Airport takes more than an hour during peak hours. With this project, the duration of time required for travelling to the airport will reduce significantly. Passenger comfort and convenience is of top priority at MIAL and by co-operating for executing the metro project, MIAL will endeavor towards ensuring a smooth connectivity to the airport.

In September 2015, MIAL had signed a MoU with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation. As a part of the agreement, MIAL agreed to participate in this project by contributing funds of Rs 777 crore to MMRC towards construction and operation of these stations on the Metro-3 corridor.
