Airport expansion work in Thoothukudi to be completed by Sept 2023

At a review meeting headed by Sanjiv Jindal, Executive Director (building wing) of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), New Delhi, it was announced that the expansion works at Thoothukudi airport, which is now ongoing, are expected to be finished by September 2023.

The Tamil Nadu government has given 600.97 acres of land to AAI for developing the runway, new passenger terminal, control tower, and fire station, among other things.

The officials also revealed that they needed another 100 acres of property at the meeting.

The compound wall over the whole 11 km span has been built from a safety perspective.

According to N Subramanian Station Director AAI, Thoothukudi, around a quarter of the construction and electrical work had been completed.

The work-in-progress at the airport premises has been praised by the All India Chamber of Commerce and other groups in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli.
