DCGA issues Aerodrome license to IRB Sindhudurg Airport

IRB Sindhudurg Airport Private Limited, an SPV of IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited, has obtained the aerodrome license from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The aerodrome license will allow the firm to make the new aviation facility accessible for Airlines and the general public.

The DGCA in the license given to the firm states the license allows the Aerodrome to be utilised as a usual place of landing and departure to all persons on similar terms and conditions by aircraft needing specifications of runway and associated facilities comprising granted exemptions equal to or less than those shown in the Aerodrome Manual.

While commenting on the occasion, Virendra D. Mhaiskar, Chairman & Managing Director of the firm, told the media that they are glad to accomplish yet another milestone in the current year and see the airport obtain the license to run after successful completion. With a concession term of more than 90 years and a compelling regional proposition, it gives significant avenues of growth. They look forward to starting the facility for airline operators and the general public shortly.

Sindhudurg Airport, with the cost expense of nearly Rs 800 crore and concession over 90 years, is the first of its kind in the South Konkan Region, which is intended at building and improving air connectivity of the area with Western Maharashtra, southern states, Mumbai and finally to all areas of the country.

The airport will not only produce the passenger traffic, but also it will be a benefit for the economic development of the area as it will help and promote cargo transportation; produce direct as well as indirect employment and other business opportunities for the local people. It has the potential to grow into a cargo Hub of the Western Region as there is plentiful space for managing the cargo and can be expanded to satisfy the surging future needs.
