Telangana govt allocates Rs 2,377.35 cr to Hyderabad Metro Rail

In the state budget for 2022-2023, the Telangana government has set aside Rs 2,377.35 crore for the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR).
The government has set aside Rs 1,500 crore for the HMR, Rs 377.35 crore for Airport Metro connectivity, and Rs 500 crore for Metro connectivity in the old city to begin work on Corridor II- Green Line, which will run for 5.5 kilometres from MGBS to Falaknuma.
For the first time since the state's formation, the government has set aside Rs 1,500 crore for land acquisition, detailed project reports (DPR), and other development projects.
In the state Assembly, Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao presented a tax-free budget of Rs 2.56 lakh crore up from about Rs 2.31 lakh crore the previous year.
Residents and other elected officials in the state have been pleading with the government to extend Metro rail service to Begum Bazar, Mangalhat, and other nearby areas. Due to property issues, the 5.5 km Metro line from MGBS to Faluknama, which began construction in phases in 2017, has yet to be completed.
According to a report, the state has allocated Rs 377.35 crore for Metro rail connectivity to the Shamshabad airport, for which the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has already prepared a detailed project report.
T Harish Rao said that the government is taking all necessary steps to extend the Hyderabad Metro in consultation with L&T, the project's partners.
The Telangana government had allocated Rs 1,000 crore for metro rail construction last year, but the project was never completed.
