TN govt to start international airport in Hosur; 30 million passengers

The Tamil Nadu government will establish an international airport in Hosur, covering 2,000 acres, with the capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually and cater to the growing industrial demands of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri district. The presence of this airport is expected to spur overall socio-economic development in the entire region, not just Hosur, the Chief Minister noted.

"I am pleased to announce in this House that an international airport will be set up on 2,000 acres of land in Hosur, capable of handling 30 million passengers per annum," Stalin declared, making the announcement under rule 110 in the Assembly. The proposal received applause from various political parties in the House.

Since the DMK came to power, Tamil Nadu has made rapid progress across all sectors, achieving the top position in India in the Export Preparedness Index for 2022, Stalin highlighted. "Tamil Nadu is India's leading state in exports of motor vehicles, ancillaries, leather goods, and electronics. From being at the bottom in 2020 in the ranking of states for industrial growth, Tamil Nadu has now become a top-performing state," he added, emphasising on-going efforts to transform the state into a one trillion US dollar economy by 2030.

Hosur has seen increasing investments in the electronics and electric vehicle manufacturing sectors over the past few years. The state government is implementing various infrastructure projects to support the rapid growth of Hosur, with a new master plan for the city nearing completion. "Thus, the government considers it necessary to establish an airport in Hosur to facilitate the overall socio-economic development of the Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri regions," Stalin said.

Additionally, Stalin announced that a modern library and knowledge centre will be constructed in Tiruchirappalli, a city on the banks of the river Cauvery, and will be named after the late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. (Source: ET)
