Highway, tunnel projects to reduce Delhi-Kashmir travel time

Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari told the media that highway and tunnel projects will reduce the travel time from Delhi to Kashmir to eight hours in the future.

Gadkari made these remarks after laying the foundation stones for four National Highway projects in Jammu and Kashmir totalling Rs 3612 crore, including the start of the Srinagar Ring Road project.

The road transport minister cited road connectivity as a critical factor in any region's socio-economic growth and development.

Gadkari informed that the new projects will improve road connectivity in J&K, opening up new livelihood opportunities for the local population and enhancing tourism and business activities, all of which will improve the people's quality of life.

According to the minister, mega highway and tunnel projects will reduce travel time from Delhi to Kashmir to eight hours in the coming years.

The long-delayed Srinagar Ring Road project is also expected to be completed by the end of 2023, said Gadkari.

The Srinagar-Jammu national highway project will be completed in the next two to three years, providing much relief to the people of the UT.

Gadkari also advocated for the implementation of environmentally friendly transportation policies.
