Assam CM Sarma lays foundation stones for 2 major bridges

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government aims to complete construction of the bridge over the Luit River within two years and the bridge over the Subansiri River in next three years.

Sarma laid foundation stones and inaugurated projects worth Rs 8.94 billion under the initiative ‘Bikakhor Babe Eta Pokhek� at in Lakhimpur in Majuli district to bring about a paradigm shift to the development of the district.

On the occasion, the chief minister performed the bhumi puja for improvement and upgrading of the road from Balichapori in Majuli to Bongalmara, including construction of the two major bridges over the Luit and Subansiri Rivers. The project is being implemented under the government of Assam’s programme Asom Mala at cost of Rs 6.94 billion.

The Chief Minister also ceremonially handed over cheques to families affected by land acquisition for the construction of the road to connect Balichapari to the bridge.

As part of the development initiative undertaken by Bikakhor Babe Eta Pokhek, Chief Minister Sarma laid foundation stones for the main campus of Majuli Cultural University, upgradation of the Government Industrial Training Institute at Bangaon, Majuli, and the Central mid-day meal kitchen at a cost of Rs. 14 crore in collaboration with Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide hot cooked meals to children studying in Majuli district.
