BBMP to Acquire 25 Properties in Varthur for Road Expansion

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has finalized its plan to widen the road between Kadubeesanahalli Outer Ring Road and Yamaluru Kodi in Varthur and has decided to acquire 25 properties along the stretch. According to BBMP officials, the acquisition process will be completed soon.

This 1.8-km stretch is part of the 14 roads slated for development under the Revised Master Plan (RMP) of 2025. While the BBMP initially planned to develop around 25 km of roads at a cost of Rs 820 million, the project?s cost is expected to increase due to delays. Currently, the width of the road connecting ORR to Yamaluru Kodi ranges from 3 to 24 metres and will be expanded to 45 metres.

BBMP Engineer-in-Chief BS Prahalad mentioned that the land would be acquired through transferable development rights (TDR). He added that the project would commence soon after the land acquisition is completed, aiming to ease traffic congestion in the area.

Jagadish Reddy, a resident of the Mahadevapura zone, expressed that the road widening would benefit residents of Kadubeesanahalli, Varthur, and nearby areas. However, he noted that the acquisition process has been delayed because most landowners prefer cash compensation, which the BBMP is not willing to provide.

In related news, the BBMP has recently introduced new measures to recover property tax arrears, allowing officials to attach the bank accounts of defaulters in Bengaluru. This move is intended to overcome legal challenges in the recovery process.
