The 63 km Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway has received an amount of Rs 1,935 crore for the project from the Union government in its 2022-23 annual budget.
On December 30, 2021, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, approved the amount for the expressway.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would construct the 63 km expressway, which would decrease the travelling time among both the cities to 50 minutes from two hours.
According to the NHAI officials, the 13 km part of the expressway from Amausi airport to Bani near Unnao would be an elevated road.
The linkway would be connected by a railway over bridge, six flyovers, 38 underpasses, and three main bridges while passing via 30 villages of Unnao and 11 of Lucknow.
NN Giri, NHAI project manager, informed the media that work for hiring contractors has already started, and about 70% of the land acquisition work is finished.
The project would take around two years to complete.
The expressway would begin from National Highway (NH) 27 near Shaheed Path in South Lucknow, linking Bani, Kantha, Amarsas, and ending at NH-27 near Kanpur.
