Centre Plans Rs 2 Trn Road Works for Telangana

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that the Central Government will implement road infrastructure projects worth Rs 2 trillion (approximately 拢19 billion) in Telangana over the next three to four years.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone and inaugurating multiple projects totalling Rs 6.1 billion in Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Hyderabad districts on Monday, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways highlighted significant progress in the state. He noted that the length of national highways in Telangana has more than doubled in the last decade to over 5,000 kilometres since he assumed office.

鈥淩oadworks are underway across all 33 districts of Telangana. So far, projects worth Rs 1.25 trillion (around 拢11.9 billion) have been completed. What we see now is merely the beginning. Over the next few years, we plan to take up road development worth another Rs 2 trillion. These initiatives will transform Telangana鈥檚 image and economy,鈥 Gadkari said.

He reiterated the Centre鈥檚 commitment to Telangana鈥檚 development and invited Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to collaborate on water conservation projects under the 'Amrit Sarovar' scheme.

Gadkari also cited national progress under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), stating that roads have been built in 450,000 out of 650,000 Indian villages.

Highlighting the strategic importance of robust road networks, he said: 鈥淥ur aim is to develop a network that enables anyone in Telangana to reach Hyderabad within five hours.鈥

The Minister revealed that new green access-controlled expressways are being constructed in the state at an estimated cost of Rs 1 trillion (approx. 拢9.5 billion), including the Indore-Hyderabad Corridor, which will halve travel time between the two cities to 10 hours.

In a social media post following the ceremonies, Gadkari said these transformative road projects will spur economic activity, generate employment, and enhance logistics efficiency. 鈥淯nder the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are committed to creating a modern, well-connected, and future-ready India,鈥 he stated.

Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, along with Telangana Ministers Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and Danasari Anasuya Seethakka, were present at the event. Kishan Reddy noted that the enhanced road connectivity would strengthen links between Telangana, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh, unlocking new opportunities in trade, tourism, and investment.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Gadkari at Begumpet Airport to discuss the expedited development of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) and associated radial roads. He urged Gadkari to secure quick Cabinet approval for funding the northern section of the RRR, for which tenders have already been issued, and called for the simultaneous execution of both northern and southern sections.

He also requested the Union Minister鈥檚 support for other major projects, including the proposed Hyderabad鈥揂maravati Greenfield Expressway.
