Telangana to Develop 80-acre Eco-Town Inspired by Japan鈥檚 Kitakyushu

The Telangana government has announced plans to develop an 80-acre Eco-Town inspired by Kitakyushu City in Japan, as part of its broader commitment to sustainable development. The initiative will serve as a model for environmentally responsible urban planning and industrial growth.

The state will collaborate with Kitakyushu on a range of progressive initiatives such as achieving Net Zero emissions, riverfront development, adoption of circular economy principles, promotion of clean technologies, and driving digital innovation.

The envisioned Future City will prioritise eco-friendly industrial zones, zero-waste infrastructure, and advanced systems for water and waste management, positioning it as a benchmark for environmental sustainability.

To enhance economic ties, Telangana is also considering the introduction of direct flight services between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu. The move is aimed at encouraging Japanese investment in the state, which is already being promoted as an attractive industrial destination.

Over the past 18 months, Telangana鈥檚 efforts to attract global corporations have resulted in securing investments worth Rs 3 trillion.

The announcement was made during the conference 鈥楩rom Kitakyushu to Telangana: Catalysing Sustainable Industrial Growth鈥�, jointly organised by the Telangana government and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at T-Hub. The event saw participation from key stakeholders including the Mayor of Kitakyushu, senior state officials, and industry leaders.
