Chandigarh transport streamlines hybrid vehicle tax exemption

The promotion of eco-friendly transportation in Chandigarh has been given a boost by the Transport Department led by Nitin Yadav, Secretary Transport, and Vinay Pratap Singh, DC Chandigarh. Recently, a thorough evaluation of the registrations of Hybrid vehicles in the region was conducted.

As part of their initiative, it was announced by the Transport Department that Hybrid vehicles, including both Strong Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models, bought in Chandigarh, would now be eligible for full exemption from road tax. To ensure the authenticity of this exemption process, the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) compiled a certified list of approved Strong Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles. The list contained detailed information about the Manufacturers, Models/variants, and corresponding certificate numbers issued by the manufacturers.

It was stated that this certified list would serve as the official reference to verify the authenticity of the purchased models, making it easier to apply for road tax exemption. To maintain an up-to-date list, the RLA pledged to continuously update it as they received certificates from the manufacturers.

In addition to the above, the Transport Department introduced a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to expedite the registration process for hybrid vehicles. According to the SOP, automobile dealers would provide temporary registration certificates to vehicle owners and handle the formalities for road tax exemption directly with the Registering and Licensing Authority within 24 hours. This streamlined process ensured that the application for road tax exemption could be processed within a day, saving vehicle owners from the hassle of paperwork and long queues.
