CM declares Rs 300 cr for repairing roads and relief package for farmers

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, announced on Tuesday that Rs 300 crore has been set aside to repair roads, canals, and other infrastructure facilities that were damaged by the recent heavy rains in the state.

MK Stalin also announced that farmers who have lost their Kuruvai crops that were ready for harvest but were destroyed by the rains will receive Rs 20,000 per hectare.

Farmers who have lost their standing crops due to rainwater inundation will also be given agricultural inputs worth Rs 6,038 short term paddy variety seeds 45 kg worth Rs 1,485, micronutrients 25 kg worth Rs 1,235, urea 60 kg worth Rs 354, and DAP 125 kg worth Rs 2,964. Farmers will be able to re-cultivate their crops with the help of these agricultural inputs.

After chairing a meeting with a team of six senior ministers led by I Periasamy, who had made an on-the-spot assessment of damages caused by the rains in delta districts, the Chief Minister announced these measures.

On the occasion were Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam, Chief Secretary V Irai Anbu, and other senior officials. Earlier, the Chief Minister received a report from a group of six ministers.

The chief minister said long-term samba cultivation was ongoing in 17.46 lakh hectares, with crops raised in 68,652 hectares submerged, during his visit to delta districts on Saturday. A group of seven ministers had been touring the delta districts, listening to farmers' opinions.
