Expressway to reduce Delhi-Dehradun distance by 50 km

The Government has floated the first phase tender for constructing the Doon expressway between Delhi and Dehradun, at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore. The new expressway will reduce the distance between the two cities by 50 km, and is expected to be ready in two years.

Image Source The Doon Expressway will link Delhi with Dehradun, passing through Loni, Shamli, Baghpat, Saharanpur, and Ganeshpur. It is also being projected that the expressway will help decongest the National Capital Region (NCR) and significantly bring down pollution levels.

The expressway is being implemented in four packages:

An 8.72 km long 6-lane expressway/ 8-lane NH 24 from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Ghazipur border, already completed in June 2018 under Phase-I.
A 19.28 km long 6-lane expressway/ 8-lane NH 24 from Ghazipur border to Dasna in UP, 60 % completed under Phase-II.
A 22.23 km long 6-lane NH 24 with 2+2 lane service roads on either side from Dasna to Hapur in UP, which was inaugurated in 2019 under Phase-III.
Under Phase-IV, 57% of work is done out of the 31.78 km long greenfield 6-lane expressway from Hapur to Meerut.
