The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has allocated Rs 80.25 million for the upgrade and reinforcement of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) between Vatika Chowk and NH-48 near Kherki Daula. The 5.5 km stretch, currently in poor condition, will undergo resurfacing to ensure durability for the next two years. The project is set to begin next week, with the contractor instructed to deploy manpower and machinery promptly.
Following a competitive bidding process involving five companies, the contract was awarded to a firm that submitted a bid 15 per cent below the reserve price. The finalization of the price took place during a meeting held on February 13, chaired by GMDA officials.
In addition to the road upgrades, GMDA plans to appoint a consultant for an elevated road project along the same corridor. The consultant is expected to submit a feasibility report within three months, enabling work to commence at the earliest possible date.
The road improvement initiative aims to facilitate smoother traffic flow and alleviate congestion. The SPR serves as a crucial link connecting Sohna Road, Gurugram-Faridabad Road, NH-48, and Dwarka Expressway. Traffic volume has increased significantly, with around 20,000 families relocating to newly developed condominiums in sectors 69, 70, 70A, 72, 75, 76, and 77 to 80. The upgrades are expected to enhance road conditions and accommodate the rising vehicular movement in the area.
