Nine Companies Compete for Southern Peripheral Road Upgrade Contract

Nine companies have submitted applications for the strengthening and upgradation of the 5.5-kilometre road from Vatika Chowk to the cloverleaf on NH 48. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has allocated Rs 90.65 million for the project, which will soon be awarded to one of the bidders.

Of the nine companies, six have been found eligible, and their financial bids will be reviewed before the contract is awarded. The work is expected to be assigned by the end of February. The project involves overlaying the existing road with bituminous concrete to enhance road quality and ensure smoother commutes. Additionally, slip roads will be constructed, and pedestrian footpaths will be repaired to facilitate safer movement for both vehicles and pedestrians.

In parallel, GMDA has initiated the process of hiring a consultant for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an elevated road between Vatika Chowk and the cloverleaf on the Dwarka Expressway. The project, approved by the state government at an estimated cost of Rs 7.50 billion, aims to improve connectivity and reduce congestion. The tendering process for selecting a consultant is at an advanced stage, with five companies submitting bids for the Rs 5 million contract. The final selection is expected by the end of the month.

The proposed elevated road will address traffic congestion at key intersections in sectors 69, 70, 71, 72, 74, and 75. Studies indicate that traffic volume on this stretch will surpass 10,000 vehicles per hour in the next decade, necessitating grade separation at major junctions. Additionally, the elevated road will enhance connectivity between the Dwarka Expressway, NH 48, Sohna elevated highway, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, ensuring seamless traffic movement across these corridors.
