India Opens New Road Safety Facility to Reduce Fatalities

The Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, opened a brand-new, groundbreaking road safety facility dubbed the "Center for Advancement of Road Traffic Safety" (CARTS). The SaveLIFE Foundation (SLF), a non-profit organization, founded the center with the intention of acting as an operational nerve-center for carrying out and overseeing road safety projects across India.
CARTS will act as the focal point for SLF's and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) flagship Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC) and the Zero Fatality District programs because it has the vision and capacity to deliver a significant decrease in traffic crashes. The Zero Fatality Corridor plan from SaveLIFE, which is now being implemented on some of India's most hazardous expressways, national highways, and state roads, aims to reduce fatality stretches.
In the next five years, the new effort seeks to reduce fatal traffic accidents by 50% in 100 High Priority Districts and 100 highway corridors. Additionally, CARTS has created a Severity Index to rate the districts according to the severity of crashes, fatalities, and crash frequency. The multidisciplinary, technologically advanced team at CARTS will give the district's road safety officials the knowledge and resources they need to reduce traffic accidents. This cooperative program, according to SLF, is an effort to reduce traffic accidents, fatalities, and injuries by at least 50% over the next few years. It is backed by MoRTH and other stakeholders in road safety across India.
Shri Nitin Gadkari remarked during the CARTS launch event, 鈥淥ur government is committed to ensuring that road crashes in India are brought down with urgency. The use of technology and innovation is extremely important in the current times given the magnitude of the problem at hand and what we want to achieve.
