Jaipur development body to develop six-lane underpass at B2 bypass

The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) plans to construct a six-lane underpass of 400 metre (m) at the B2 bypass junction on Tonk Road, Rajasthan.
This construction of an underpass perpendicular to Tonk Road will ensure faster and smoother movement of vehicles in the East to West direction.
The cost for the construction is estimated at Rs 155 crore. In the project works committee (PWC) meeting, the civic body has passed the financial approval for traffic improvement and beautification work at the B2 bypass.
The feasibility report work was approved by the Ministry of Housing and Development, Shanti Dhariwal, and a detailed project report was prepared and submitted.
The project construction is proposed at the intersection of Tonk Road, one of the crucial locations to carry heavy traffic. This B2 bypass junction has four arms that mainly connect four cities, Ajmer, Jagatpura, Kota, and Jaipur.
According to a report, it is the major intersection of Tonk Road, connecting Durgapura to Sanganer and Pratap Nagar to Sitapura Industrial Area. It also connects roads that carry a majority of traffic due to hotels, hospitals, shopping malls, wedding areas, and an airport terminal.
The project also includes the construction of two 600 m cloverleaf structures. It will help in easy movement of vehicles from Tonk Road to Jawahar Circle and Mansarovar. It will have a pedestrian subway for safe and easy access for the pedestrians, an official said.
A 36-m high monument is also to be built under the project.
However, the sources say that this project could clash with the construction of Jaipur Metro Phase II on Tonk Road. It would ruin the skyline of the city and also increase the cost of the metro project.
