Kaloor-Kadavanthra road revamp: A major city attraction

The Minister for Local Self-Government, M B Rajesh, stated that the revamped Kaloor-Kadavanthra road would become a significant attraction for the city. During the inauguration of the beautification project, he emphasised the impact of positive developments in Kochi on the entire state of Kerala.
Rajesh further declared the government's commitment to provide modern, internationally standardised systems and facilities in Kochi, highlighting the Kaloor-Kadavanthra road as a prominent example. The road, which serves as a vital link between two commercial hubs, is currently being expanded to a width of 22 meters.
The total cost of the upgrade amounts to Rs 0.3 billion, with the Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) contributing Rs 0.2 billion through its non-motorised transport (NMT) initiative, and the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) investing Rs 0.1 billion. The renovation project aims to enhance the road's accessibility for women and individuals with disabilities through the inclusion of footpaths, drainage systems, streetlights, street furniture, and landscaping, Rajesh explained.
In addition to infrastructure development, the minister stressed the importance of prioritising sanitation. He expressed his belief that progress in hygiene can be achieved alongside social progress, emphasising the need for collective participation.
The function, held at the parking lot of the Kaloor Metro station, was presided over by MLA T J Vinod. In attendance were Mayor M Anilkumar, GCDA chairman K Chandran Pillai, KMRL managing director Loknath Behera, GCDA executive committee member A B Sabu, KMRL director (projects) M P Ramnavas, and other distinguished individuals.
