Mumbai: BMC to build twin tunnels below SGNP to cost RS 6.3 bn

As part of the future Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project, twin tunnels 4.7 kilometres long will be erected beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), with an expanded tunnel crossing past Goregaon's Film City.

The tunnels, which would cost Rs 6.32 billion to build, will give seamless east-west communication. The BMC has already invited bids for the design, building, and operation of the twin tunnels, with work set to begin in March 2023. The GMLR project is divided into four phases, with tunnelling falling under 3B.

The 12.2km road 鈥� connecting the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund 鈥� will be crucial in decongesting other prominent pathways like the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road, Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road and Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road.
