Mumbai dewatering pumps for waterlogging in Coastal Road Project

Mumbai is currently undergoing a period of significant transformation, characterised by substantial infrastructure initiatives that are set to reshape its urban landscape. A noteworthy project driving this transformation is the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), which is currently underway within the city. The construction of this project has necessitated the occupation of various sections of Mumbai's coastal regions, including iconic spots such as Marine Drive. However, the city has been grappling with a significant challenge in the form of waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall. To address this issue, the implementation of dewatering pumps has been deemed necessary.

In the wake of a recent bout of intense rainfall, Mumbai observed instances of waterlogging, particularly affecting areas around Marine Drive. This prompted concerns regarding the potential for waterlogging in connection with the on-going Mumbai Coastal Road Project. In response to these concerns, plans are now in place to install an array of dewatering pumps.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced its intention to counter the issue of waterlogging by deploying a total of 25 high-capacity dewatering pumps at strategic locations across the city. These installations will occur following a comprehensive inspection aimed at identifying the most critical areas.

According to a recent article published by Mumbai Live, certain key locations, such as Charni Road in close proximity to the Taraporewala Aquarium, have been earmarked for the installation of these dewatering pumps. These pumps are projected to empower authorities to extract a substantial volume of water, estimated at 2,500 cubic metres, as disclosed by a government spokesperson.
