NHAI starts work on 56 km Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam route

The four-lane greenfield road between Khammam and Devarapalli, which is part of the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam route, will be completed soon. The construction is moving at a fast pace. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun work on the four-lane project, which will cost Rs 2,200 crore.

The route runs through Khammam district for 89 kilometres. Approximately 95% of the entire 1,332 acres required for acquisition has been acquired. In Khammam district, the four-lane road has been separated into three packages. Two packages have been taken up by HG Infra, a Delhi-based company, and the remaining package has been taken up by KMV of AP.

NHAI project officer V Durga Prasad said, “We are expecting the completion of the road by 2024.� Once the road gets operational, the distance between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad will come down by 56 km. Already 8 km of BT road has been laid. “We have paid Rs 200 crore to farmers for acquiring land for the road. We have to make a balance payment of Rs 10 crore only,� he added.
