The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated measures to fix potholes cropped up along the busy Chandni Chowk area. Additionally, at least 25 traffic officers will be appointed to maintain traffic flow in the area where the flyover work is underway. Nearly 22% of work on the project has been achieved. It will likely reduce vehicular traffic in the region. The project covers the provision of access roads towards Bavdhan, Pirangut Road and Paud road towards the city, besides a flyover. The ongoing work has been creating traffic snarls on the entire stretch of Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, particularly during the rush hours. Regular commuters have asked for deployment of more traffic police staff at important junctions in the area. Kothrud MLA and BJP state president Chandrakant Patil lately conducted visits at the place and directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and NHAI officials as well as traffic police officers to initiate steps. Patil said that the potholes should be fixed within eight days and sought the provision of other measures to evade chaos at the junction. An official from NHAI told the media that significant measures are being planned to streamline the traffic and push the work forward. Repairing potholes would now be done continuously, although it is a difficult task as the entire stretch observes an enormous flow of vehicles all the time. They have been asked to fix potholes at important areas and establish safety barricades at spots where works are underway. Potholes will be repaired at night in some areas to avoid inconvenience to commuters. Some part of the land needed for the project is yet to be provided to NHAI. The NHAI officials said that they were in talks with the PMC to get ownership of the required land.
