Patna to get its first double-decker flyover

Work on a double-decker flyover that will ease traffic on Patna's highly-congested Ashok Rajpath is progressing along the subterranean metro line, which may be a first for the city. The Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam (BRPNNL) is preparing to begin construction work from Civil Court to Patna Dental College as the foundation work for the flyover between Kargil Chowk and Khulhariya Complex approaches completion.

By January 2025, the two-lane flyover that is being built from Kargil Chowk (near Gandhi Maidan) to Science College via Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) should be completed. A total of Rs 422 crore would be needed to complete the project. In September 2021, the megaproject's cornerstone was formally laid.

According to an engineer with the executing agency, foundation work on the 300 m section between Kargil Chowk and Khulhariya Complex will be finished by the end of this month, opening the door for the installation of the pillars that will support the flyover's plank. "At the same time, we've begun moving the subsurface utilities so that we may begin erecting piles between Civil Court and Patna Dental College. The installation of girders by the engineers has advanced the 800 m of civil construction between PMCH (gate 2) and Science College. "So far, 12 span girders in all have been installed. The ongoing Patna metro rail project only disrupts a 350 m length near PMCH, according to a BRPNNL source.
