While addressing a virtual meeting by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Nitin Gadkari appealed to the skilled officials to cooperate and help the department change the system of the steel and cement industry. The current government system is orthodox and not ready for any changes. Hence it is the responsibility of people and officials to change the system, attitude, vision, and approach to take up an appropriate policy decision that would benefit the country and everyone, Gadkari said. He emphasised the need to save costs and produce alternatives for steel and cement. He suggested the people in the meeting find ways of reducing the cost by using different materials or changing designs without compromising on the quality. It is the area in which he needs experienced people from the relevant department. Additionally, he said that he does not have a good opinion on steel and cement industries which are taking advantage of the situation and creating black markets. The minister gave an example of his experience working on the Zoji-la-Tunnel, where an engineer assisted and advised him, and Gadkari was ready to cut down the expense of the mission to save Rs 5,000 crore.
