Piaggio India, Mahindra Electric Mobility and Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions Limited are among the companies that participated in the bidding for supplying electric three-wheelers (E3W) as a part of 100,000 vehicles tender with an estimated cost of Rs 3,000 crore. The tender of Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) witnessed bids for seven times the proposed purchase plan for 21 companies, sources said. CESL is conducting the technical evaluation of the bids, and they are expected to be opened in a few days. Many bids are in collaboration, and the companies have formed consortiums. The firms have decided to lease half of the electric vehicles (EVs) and sell the remaining via digital platforms. The proposal invited manufacturers to provide their quotations for E3W for disposing of garbage, goods carriers, food and vaccine transportation and passenger autos. CESL plans to have 200,000 two-wheelers EVs and three-wheelers EVs across the country. The government is allotting the demand for E3W and electric bus components to Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and EVs (FAME) scheme worth Rs 10,000 crore. The first phase of the scheme was started on 1 April 2015 and extended till 31 March 2019. The second phase started on 1 April 2019, and it will end on 31 March 2022 and be extended till March 2024. The allotted amount for the second phase is to be spent to subsidize 500,000 E3W, one million E2W, 55,000 electric passenger vehicles and 7,090 electric buses. Additionally, supplying E2W to states including Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Goa, CESL has been aggregating the demand for lease and operation of E3W for garbage collection fleets of municipal corporations in India. CESL is also in discussion with Swachh Andhra for 15,000 more garbage tippers. The company plans to halve the ownership cost through sops under the FAME scheme, state government subsidies, support from EV manufacturers and carbon credits.
