The Public Works Department (PWD) announced that disciplinary measures had been taken against over half a dozen contractors due to their failure in carrying out road repair and redevelopment projects in Delhi. It was reported by PWD officials last week that approximately nine contractors had been prohibited from engaging in the tendering procedures under various categories of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for durations ranging from six to nine months. An official from PWD stated that the contractors had been issued showcause notices, requesting explanations for their violations of the 2022 enlistment rules. The PWD had an empowered committee responsible for evaluating the responses based on factual evidence and records. This committee recommended applying disciplinary measures against the contractors. As a result, the contractors were barred from participating in CPWD tendering processes for specific periods. Most of the agreements related to road repair and redevelopment undertakings. Among the contractors who were banned, one had been assigned the task of strengthening the 'Ghitorni Village Road', while another had been entrusted with the responsibility of restoring the Jaitpur Road, which had been damaged during pipeline work conducted by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). Another contractor had been given the assignment of repairing and maintaining several roads in southwest Delhi division-1. This encompassed tasks such as improving footpaths and constructing boundary walls at the New RTR Flyover, building footpaths and carrying out miscellaneous tasks on the NH-8 Slip towards Dwarka approach road, reinstating the Arya Samaj Road from Dayal Chowk to Elahi Bux Road, mending the road cut by STPL and various agencies from Subroto Park to RTR Marg on the Outer Ring Road, and fixing drains and enhancing footpaths and roads along Guru Ravi Dass Marg from Tikona Park to Tank Road in the WEA Karol Bagh area. Officials elaborated that some of the contractors who had been banned were also contracted for jobs involving the installation and repair of grills, central medians, thermoplastic paintings, drainage repair, and maintenance of streetlights on roads, as well as subways under the electrical division. Once the stipulated period had passed, the contractors would be permitted to participate in the tendering processes once more and engage in PWD projects. This measure was implemented in accordance with regulations to prevent the recurrence of such incidents and to ensure the timely completion of tasks.
