PWD projects to resume soon in Rajasthan

Six categories of work of the state public works department (PWD) largely funded by the central government may resume soon after the approval of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari.
This work includes those funded by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), and Rajasthan State Highway Authority. On the directions of Kumari, who is also the PWD minister, the issue was discussed by officials at a review meeting on Friday. However, no discussion was held on resuming work on state-funded projects.
It was informed at the meeting that National Highways passing through the state and the roads built under CRIF are financed by the central government and that the entire process is adopted as per directions of the ministry of road transport and highways. Therefore, the construction work of roads built under these schemes could be resumed after an approval by the CM and the deputy CM, said sources.
Work of national highways at a cost of around Rs 1,300 crore and CRIF-category roads at a cost of Rs 812 crore are to be done in the state this financial year. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana being completely a central government scheme, its operation and monitoring will be done by National Rural Infrastructure Development. Under this, work of about Rs 672 crore will be done in the region.
Rajasthan State Highway Authority (RSHA) being an autonomous body funded by World Bank and ADB, the work done by it could also be resumed after the approvals. State roads costing about Rs 1,718 crore are to be built by RSHA. Roads that are to be built with funds sourced from the Railways and HPCL could be resumed after these approvals, too, said officials.
After the discussions, it was decided in the meeting that a detailed note regarding the six categories of work will be prepared and sent to the deputy chief minister-cum-PWD minister for her approval on Tuesday. Further action will be taken as per her instructions, said officials.
