With China's rising skill in building in mountainous areas to go to various places rapidly, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh requested the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to improve its capabilities with the newest technology to speed up infrastructure development in border areas. The defence minister told the media about the government's recent declaration of a 40% increase in BRO's capital budget to Rs 3,500 crore in financial year (FY) 2022-23, emphasising the government's commitment to the country's security and border development. Sigh informed the development of border areas as a key part of the government's overall defence policy, noting that it will strengthen the country's security system while also improving the lives of those living in distant places. While speaking at the 63rd Raising Day ceremony, the minister said that in recent years, China's footprint in the northern region has grown. They were able to get to several locations fast. The BRO must continue to operate in parallel and focus on growing its capabilities while utilising technology to the fullest extent possible. Singh further stated that the central government is making every attempt to give the BRO the necessary assistance in this regard. The minister appreciated the organisation for creating new doors of security and wealth for the entire country, not only in the areas where it is working on projects. Singh also emphasised the importance of roads, bridges, and tunnels in a nation's prosperity, saying that the BRO's projects had boosted the Armed Forces' operational readiness and the socio-economic situations of those living in remote locations.
