Commuters on Pune’s Sinhagad Road can now expect faster, smoother rides as the second phase of the much-anticipated flyover—stretching 2.2 km from Vitthalwadi Arch to Fun Time Theatre—was inaugurated on May 1 by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
Designed to ease traffic for over 1.5 lakh vehicles daily, the flyover bypasses five major junctions—Inamdar Chowk, Hingne Chowk, Santosh Hall Chowk, Datta Hotel Chowk, and Goyal Ganga Chowk—cutting travel time by up to 30 minutes and reducing fuel use and pollution.
Present at the event were Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, MP Medha Kulkarni, MLA Hemant Rasane, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, and other civic officials.
Deputy CM Pawar called the project a key step toward decongesting rapidly expanding suburbs like Vadgaon, Dhayari, Narhe, Nanded, and Khadakwasla. He also highlighted future traffic solutions, including a tunnel project from Yerwada, a Rs 2,000 crore push for electric vehicles, and riverfront beautification plans.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Bhosale noted that despite pandemic-related delays, the flyover work, which began in September 2021, was completed with steady progress. "This structure will provide major relief to commuters from Khadakwasla, Narhe, and surrounding areas," he said.
