TBM Bhadra emerges after tunnelling 1,066 m for Namma Metro

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) dubbed Bhadra, for Bengaluru Metro鈥檚 Pink Line, emerged at Shadi Mahal near Tannery Road on Friday after tunnelling a distance of 1,066 metres. The machine was set up at Venkateshpura underground station in June 2021 to tunnel upward to K G Halli metro station.

According to the Bangalore Corporation Ltd, the machine finished the tunnel after 540 days. Tannery Road Station now features a 192-metre temporary tunnel for drive-through thanks to the machine.

The BMRCL is constructing a 14-km tunnel network from Dairy Circle to Nagawara as part of Phase II. The Namma Metro project鈥檚 contractors have operated nine tunnel boring machines. The line from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara (Pink line) includes the tunnel system.

At Nagawara, this line will be integrated with the ORR airport line. The Pink Line is likely to be operational by 2024.
