The work of the Trichy-Chennai trunk road up-gradation has begun. The road is 1.5 km long and costs Rs. 7 crore. It runs between the police checkpoint near Srirangam RTO and the Thiruvanaikoil junction (near Teppakulam). The route acts as an entrance to the temples of Srirangam Ranganathaswamy and Thiruvanaikoil Jambukeswarar, which average at least 20,000 pilgrims each day.
